That is right Internet politics , there is a basic game of Internet politics that plays out everyday and every minute that most people are unaware of .
Most of the time things work great all sites will load fast but there are times no matter what speed you pay for there are interruptions or hiccups .
Mostly noticeable wen trying to watch videos like on youtube Netflix or just using facebook .
This is more often than not caused by the political arguments and deals being made behind the curtain of our ISP provider and ware the incoming data is being rendered from .
Internet providers and Data Requests
Internet providers wait patiently to here what kind of data is to be requested buy you the consumer whether it be a video or web site .
The ISP then requests said info from a Tier 2 or Tier 3 provider . This is were the political venture comes in to play , the Tier 2 or Tier 3 provider has data ports set up for each ISP and once the quota traffic is met Tier 2 or Tier 3 tells the ISP they must upgrade . Here is where the lag comes in if the ISP refuses to upgrade the Tier 2 or 3 can stop traffic all together forcing the traffic to be rerouted causing interruptions or in a videos case severe buffer . Understanding the difference between Tier 1 , Tier 2 and Tier 3 can be a little difficult as it is somewhat hidden . Without further delay straight out of the archives of wikipedia I give you the definition of TIER 1 .
Internet Tier 2 and Tier 3
This is ware the moneys at and the reason I say this is there are very few Tier 2 and Tier 3 providers allowing them to control the market and set particular price ranges during a deal . If your a little ISP provider you pretty much have no choice but to play ball or be faced with a total shut down .
No data traffic flow no customers because you can not provide . So if your a small ISP and Tier 2 or 3 provider says you need to pay us more to upgrade your data port infrastructure you say how much and do it . If your a large ISP you can play the gambit and disagree reroute your traffic in hopes Tier 2 or 3 gives a better offer or comes to there senses giving the customer delays and lag . I came across this information after reading a 4 page article that arstechnia put together . So if your prepared and have your geek hat on I encourage you to read it as well , straight out of the archives of arstechnica I give you WHY YOUTUBE BUFFERS .
If you have the money to invest becoming a Tier 2 or 3 provider is were the money is at . Tier 2 and 3 are the backbone of the Internet they pretty much connect the world . This market of Tier 2 and 3 is cornered because of there being only a few of them leaving a ripe opportunity for other investors . What would be the dollar investment I am not sure and other than the dollar amount there is the FCC to deal with . So before you get all excited and put your cross hairs on the Tire 3 position of the Internet there is plenty of more home work to be done . And as ars stated it is best to know your ISP especially if your having a lot of issues that are not being solved this could be do to them rerouting traffic during a political gambit with a Tire 2 or 3 provider rather than just upgrading there infrastructure and Data ports . Peace have a great day riding the wave of the INTERNET and TIER 2 and 3 PROVIDERS I am out .
